Lukashenka: Bialiatski may be amnestied
The Belarus president tells a meeting of media editors in Minsk that political prisoner Ales Bialiatski could be amnestied.
Director of the information company BelaPAN Ales Lipai asked Lukashenka about the political prisoner. He reminded that the public had compensated the losses that the state had suffered because of human rights defender Ales Byalyatski (according to the verdict) long ago.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka ordered senior deputy head of his Administration Alyaksandr Radzkou to check the information.
"This is a serious argument. It’s not about politics and Byalyatski’s position. I can swear – I have never known him and I still do not know him,” BelaPAN quotes Lukashenka. “Taxes are sacred,” the state leader noted.
If the information about the compensation is proved, Byalyatski may be amnestied, the President said.
