Alyaksei Hryshyn: “Dzmіtry Rak has started talking and reading”
A well-known Belarusian freestyle sportsman has started recovering. Now he is undergoing a rehabilitation course in the Republican Hospital “Aksakaushchyna”. Let us remind you that Dzmitry received a severe head injury while getting ready for the World Freestyle Championship that took place in China.
He spent 18 days in coma. After that he went through a course at Minsk Hospital #5 and was taken to “Aksakaushchyna”.
The sportsman’s team mate Alyaksei Hryshyn describes his state:
“He still cannot walk, he has problems with the left knee – it does not unbend. It is necessary to see to it, to recover his arms and legs, to make him walk again. He can talk much better then he used to a month ago.
He started talking and now he can talk and read without any problems. He is recovering and all he needs is a good rehabilitation course. We are working on it now. He may be sent abroad, maybe to Russia where there are good rehabilitation centres.”
By the way, a day in a Russian rehabilitation centre costs about 400 USD. The Ministry of Sport and the National Olympic Committee will pay for the sportsmen rehabilitation. Isn’t it enough? The National Olympic Committee has started raising money to support Dzmitry Rak. ERB phoned the NOC press-secretary Pavel Rabuhin to clear it up:
“The Ministry of Sport and the National Olympic Committee are controlling everything concerning the rehabilitation of Dzmitry Rak. We are getting the necessary medicine even abroad if need it. For example, the general secretary of the National Olympic Committee has been doing it lately.
We do everything doctors say. We listen to their advice and recommendations. We have posted four account numbers at the NOC web site to raise more money. We cover all the expenses but additional money can never be unnecessary.”
ERB decided to find out who else was willing to help the sportsman. We turned to a well-known Belarusian sports organization – the President’s Sports Club. Its head is Dzmitry Lukashenka, the younger son of the President. Of course there is no lack of money there. We expected any answer except the one we got. It turned out they did not even know who Dzmitry Rak was…
“Well… that’s a straight question. We have not helped this man yet. But we have a great charity network. We are helping young people and children. But we have not received such information yet. By the way we do not know who it is. Maybe you can explain?”
When our reporter explained who Dzmitry Rak was they passed the receiver to the head of the public relations department Alyaksandr:
We know who Dzmitry Rak is, what, how and why and everything else concerning his problem. From the beginning to the end. We are aware of the situation. Any help… I can tell you – we are working on the issue.
— So you haven’t helped him yet?
— We are working on the issue.
The European Radio for Belarus wishes Dzmitry Rak success and quick recovery.
