American Emmanuel Zeltzer goes on hunger strike in Belarusian prison
An imprisoned US citizen Emmanuel Zeltzer has gone on a hunger strike today, on June 8. His lawyer Dzmitry Harachka has informed ERB about it. Emmanuel Zeltzer who is serving his sentence in a Mahileu colony has gone on a hunger strike because of despair.
This is what Dzmitry Harachka said in an interview with ERB:
“Nothing new has happened. He only said that he was going to go on a hunger strike because of their behaviour”.
Emmanuel Zeltzer is serving his sentence in Mahileu colony #11. He has been in the medial unit of the colony since his arrival in autumn 2008.
The US citizen can be included in the amnesty dated for the 64th anniversary of liberation of Belarus from fascist invaders. However, the process is delayed because Minsk City Court has not been able to send a note proving that the state has no suits against the imprisoned person for about a month.
