Barack Obama and Angela Merkel ready to impose new sanctions on Russia
The U.S. President and German Chancellor have discussed the possibility of imposing more sanctions on Russia due to Moscow’s actions in Ukraine.
Once again, Obama and Merkel urged Russian to withdraw troops from the Ukrainian border.
Pro-Russia separatists ‘clearly supported by Russia’ are destabilizing the situation in Ukraine ‘with the help of a coordinated campaign of instigation and sabotage’, BBC quotes Obama. The USA, EU and other partners should respond to the further escalation by imposing additional sanctions on Russia, Obama stressed.
By the way, NATO published satellite photos showing Russian troops concentrating near the Ukrainian border on Thursday. However, a high-ranking representative of the Russian General Staff told Russian mass media that the photos had been made during a military exercise in the Southern military area in August 2013.
