Belarus to deport Polish priest

Polish priest Jaroslaw Lukasik was on May 30 sentenced to a fine of Br31,000 in Minsk. In early June, he will be deported from Belarus. Lukasik will be banned from entering Belarus for the next five years. The priest was charged with "activities that were undermining the national security of the Republic of Belarus in the inter-confessional field".

Jaroslaw Lukasik said that religious activities could not serve as grounds for having his entry permit banned.

Lukasik was detained on May 27 shortly after having served a mess at a private house belonging to a Belarusian protestant pastor. He was released from a police custody by the Polish diplomats in Minsk, according to Belapan.
