Belarus marking Radonitsa today
On April 28, Belarus is marking Radonitsa, also known as Remembrance Day. Radonitsa is one of the most ancient holidays which dates back to pagan times. The Orthodox Church adapted this day as its religious holiday.
On this day, Orthodox Christians visit cemeteries and pray for their dead relatives. Under the tradition, Easter eggs are left for the dead on their graves.
Radonitsa is an official day off in Belarus.
