Belarus parliament to wait out over Abkhazia recognition
The House of Representatives of Belarus is not expected to consider the issue of recognizing Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states during its spring session, Foreign Affairs Commission Chairman Siarhei Maskevich said in a statement today.
He noted the lawmakers took into account all the legal peculiarities of discussing this issue in the parliament.
"This is a question of the state, not the parliament", he said. "Simply, the president asked the parliament to express its view. The parliament cannot take this decision, it can only express an opinion", Maskevich noted.
However, he stressed that "this issue will be considered sooner or later", reports Belapan
