Belarus pays its gas debt to Russia
Beltranshaz, Belarus' gas pipeline system operator, had no
debt to Russia's
natural gas giant Gazprom as of July 24, said Uladzimir Chekau, spokesman for
Beltranshaz.
An unnamed government source
told Interfax that Beltranshaz settled its debt for Q2 on July 23.
Earlier this month, Gazprom
threatened to take Beltranshaz to court over underpaid bills. Gazprom raised the
price for Belarus from $119
per 1000 cubic
meters in the first quarter of the year to $128 in the
second quarter, but Belarus
continued to pay at $119, accumulating a debt estimated at $45 million.
