Belarus in place 153 of World Economic Freedom Index

There is now available an updated index of world economic freedom. It is compiled by the American Research Center Heritage Foundation and the newspaper The Wall Street Journal. This year Belarus is in 153rd place out of 178 countries, Radio Liberty reports.

Compared with the previous year, Belarus dropped by 3 places. Our country is in the penultimate (42-m) place among the European countries.

Note that the most free economies are in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland. Lithuania became 15th, Latvia - 37th, Poland - 42th, Russia - 143rd.

Index of Economic Freedom of the country is estimated using 10 indicators that reflect different aspects of economic life: freedom of enterprise, trade, tax system, government spending, pricing policy, freedom of investment, banking system, protection of private property against the encroachments of the state, the level of corruption in the economy, the job market.

The report highlights that the Belarusian economy remains one of the most controlled ones in the world.
