Belarus seeks to restore trade turnover with Russia back to $40bn

Belarus has proposed Russia to restore the trade turnover to the level of $40 billion. Visiting Moscow on 13 June to attend the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union state, Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kabyakou proposed to set this target as a strategic goal, reports government.by.

In his speech in Moscow, Kabyakou reminded that the mutual trade turnover between Belarus and Russia grew 23.5% up to $32 billion last year. Payments in national currrencies, Russian rubles in the first place, accounted for 80% of this increase. Kabyakou noted he wanted the trade turnover expressed exclusivly in national currencies and to keep the upward trend going.

"I am convinced we will manage not only to maintain the achieved level of intergovernmental relations but also to raise it to a new height," Belarus PM said. More details can be found here.
