Belarusian human rights defenders: Haidukou is political prisoner
Belarusian Helsinki Committee and Viasna human rights center have recognized Andrei Haidukou as political prisoner
Haidukou’s sentence is “ungrounded and politically motivated” and is aimed at “increasing the importance of KGB by methods unacceptable in a democratic society”, human rights defenders say. The authors of the appeal drew attention to the violation of the right to a fair trial and other rights and liberties guaranteed by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
Human rights defenders demand to release Andrei Haidukou and “cancel the illegal sentence while reconsidering his right to a fair trial”.
