Constitution Day marked in Belarus
The Constitution Day is marked in Belarus on March 15. The main law of the Republic of Belarus was adopted in 1994 – 22 years ago. The Constitution was adopted by the Supreme Council headed by Mechyslau Hryb. He signed the document.
The Constitution was changed by the Belarusian President in November 1996. The new law gave more rights to the state leader and seriously restricted the power of the parliament.
“Respect for the state symbols is the best index of patriotism and the people’s civil and political culture. The main law is the legal basis of our sovereign and independent state, it guarantees citizens’ rights and liberties and it is the essential condition for the realization of Belarus’ further development strategy,” Alyaksandr Lukashenka noted in this year’s greeting.
