Demographic security program "should not give birth to dependancy"

The National Demographic Security Program for 2007-2010 "should not give birth to dependency," Aliaksandr Lukashenka said a meeting with the government on demography issues.

There is a need to establish a general system of measures in order to stabilize the number of the population and create conditions for the demographic growth in Belarus, he said.

Last year, Belarus increased its birth rate at 7 percent, while the mortality rate has dropped at 3 percent, the head of the state noted.
