Ex-director of Uzda agricultural service dies in Minsk prison
Ex-director of Uzda district agricultural service Alyaksandr Bich, 30, has died in jail in Minsk. He was imprisoned for 6 years for bribery in March. Ex-head of Uzda District Executive Committee Vyachaslau Paholchyk was imprisoned for 7 years for the same case. They bought a beetroot harvester from ‘the right’ supplier. Alyaksandr Bich was serving his sentence in Babruisk colony and was brought to Minsk detention centre in Valadarski Street at the end of June. He was being interrogated in connection with another case started for power and authority abuse.
Alyaksandr Bich died a month ago (on August 8) but the death has only been reported now. “It was a natural death,” his mother read in a letter from the detention centre. Bich never had any health problems, his relatives and friends say.
The death is being investigated now. No traces of violence have been found on the body, official spokesperson of the Investigation Committee Yulia Hancharova said. The man probably died of some disease. A forensic medical examination will be conducted.
