Finland bans smoking in bars, restaurants
Finland on June 1 imposed a ban on smoking in bars and restaurants. The first attempt to enact the ban took place in 1999, but bar owners managed to defend the right to smoking back then. Under the current regulation, smoking is only allowed in specially designed rooms where eating is prohibited. Finland banned smoking in public places in 1977 and at working places in 1995.
According to the public opinion polls, up to 94 percent of the population in Finland support a total ban for smoking in public areas, reports Gazeta.ru.
