Georgia satisfied with Belarus' position on Abkhazia, South Ossetia
Despite that Belarus has not officially backed Georgia in the territorial conflict for Abkhazia and South Ossetia, it is much more important for Georgia that Belarus has not sided with Russia on this issue, Vasili Tchkaidze, the director of the European Integration Research Center, said in an interview with the European Radio for Belarus. He said: “There are no expectations in Georgia that Belarus should necesserily support Georgia. The neutrality that Belarus is currently displaying is sufficient for the Georgian society".
Georgia thinks that Belarus thus is implementing the recommendations of the European Union which called on all the European nations to refrain from recognising the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in order to maintain good relations with the European Union.
