Aryna Sabalenka said that she no longer supports Aliaksandr Lukashenka, as she does not support the war. She said that at a press conference held after the Belarusian tennis player reached the semifinals of the French Open.
As Euroradio reported previously, on June 6, Sabalenka defeated Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina 6-4, 6-4.
At a press conference after this victory, Sabalenka was asked about her photos with Lukashenka.
"Well, we played a lot at the Fed Cup in Belarus. He was at our matches, took pictures with us after the match. Nothing bad was going on in Belarus, Ukraine or Russia at that time," the tennis player replied.
"You say that you do not support the war. But you still support Aliaksandr Lukashenka?" she asked.
"Well, it's a complicated question. I don't support the war, which means I don't support Lukashenka at the moment," the athlete said.
Earlier, Sabalenka refused to comment on the New Year's celebration with Lukashenka at the Roland Garros press conferences, and then held a press conference for selected media.
