KAREN STEWART: US EMBASSY IN MINSK RESUMES ISSUING VISAS
US Ambassador in Minsk Karen Stewart in an exclusive interview with the European Radio for Belarus promises to resume issuing visas to the Belarusian citizens and comments on the recent political events in Belarus. ERB: Ambassador Stewart, have you heard about the raids in apartments and offices of the independent media carried out today by the Belarusian KGB? How would you comment on this situation?
Karen Stewart: Yes. In the morning when I received Washington Post, I saw a story about the crackdown on independent media and the searches in the offices and apartments of journalists and the detentions.
It looks like a follow-up to the brutal dispersal of the peaceful demonstration on March 25. This demonstrates that Lukashenka's rule remains to be a regime of brutal dictatorship where human rights are ignored.
