Kavalenka: Charges against me break apart
Siarhei Ruselik, a member of the opposition Conservative Christian Party of the Belarusian Popular Front, today was examined by psychiatrists. The activist told the European Radio for Belarus that doctors had no complaints about his mental health. Siarhei Kavalenka: “They told me I was okay. But they will have to send the results of the check-up to the police. They listened to me with attention like human beings”.
In the view of Kavalenka, the police ordered a medical check-up, because they lack any serious evidence to prove he is guilty. He was detained on January 7 after having put a national white-red-white flag on top of the Christmas tree in downtown Vitsebsk.
Siarhei Kavalenka: “Their case is breaking apart. Hooliganizm was not my goal. My goal was to carry out a political action. Secondly, when they claim that I disobeyed and resisted police officers, it is myself who was sustained injuries”.
Siarhei Kavalenka is expected to meet his lawyer tomorrow to work out the strategy of his defense.
The activist from Vitsebsk is charged with hooliganism and resistance to police officers. If conviceted, he might be sentenced to five years in jail.
