Lithuanian president: Russia may use Belarus NPP ‘as a weapon’

Russia may use the Belarusian NPP ‘as non-conventional weapon ’Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė said. She touched upon the issue at the meeting of Baltic leaders in Vilnius. Grybauskaitė explained the new Russian threat to Vice President of the United States Mike Pence – Russians are building a nuclear power plant not far from the Lithuanian border in Belarus. The United States’ firm position as regards the Kremlin’s geopolitical energy plans ‘is essential’, RIA Novosti quotes the Lithuanian President.
The first power unit of the Belarusian NPP will be launched in 2019 and the second one – in 2020. Grybauskaitė also accused Russia of ‘building an unsafe NPP that may be used as non-conventional weapon’ at the meeting of the state leader of Eastern and Central European states with U.S. President Donald Trump in Warsaw on July 6.
