Lukashenka pushes for nuclear energy at St Petersburg summit
During the informal summit of heads of CIS member states in St Petersburg, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenka proposed to focus on research in the peaceful nuclear energy sector. The year of 2009 is expected to be dedicated to the energy issues. Belarus deems it possible to develop new projects associated with alternative energy sources in the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States, reports telegraf.by
Lukashenka also stressed that a new efficient scheme of interaction in the transport sector should be developed, including new transport transit corridors.
12 presidents of CIS member states took part in the St. Petersburg summit. They exchanged views on the strategy of economic development by 2020 and discussed humanitarian aspects of cooperation.
