Lyabedzka vows to gather 100,000 signatures for Sidorski's presidential bid
Belarus PM Syarhei Sidorski might become Kremlin's protege for the presidential elections, United Civil Party leader Anatol Lyabedzka told Belarus Partisan. In his view, Syrhei Sidorski might get Kremlin's backing during the presidential campaign. Lyabedzka named two possible scenarios.
According to the first scenario, something happens to Lukashenka, and PM Sidorski takes over as an acting head of the state on the next day.
Under the second scenario, pro-democracy forces in Belarus make a joint statement, naming PM Sidorski as their candidate. Since he is the head of government, it is difficult to jail him. These are certain security guarantees. The opposition will gather 100,000 signatures and nominate him as the opposition's single candidate.
However, Lyabedzka admits that these are hypothetical scenarios, because the opposition does not know what to do with the already announced potential candidates.
