Milkavita – Yuras Karmanau trial to continue on October 6
The trial of Milkavita and AP journalist Yuras Karmanau started in Minsk Maskouski District Court on October 5.
Karmanau’s investigation is the reason for the hearing. The journalist published an article proving that Milkavita was using radioactive milk in spring.
The investigation did damage to the company’s business reputation, Milkavita decided.
The hearing took an hour. Syarhei Zikratski is Karmanau’s lawyer. Chairperson of the Belarusian Association of Journalists Andrei Bastunets also represents the reporter in court.
Judge Alena Rudnitskaya made TUT.BY, BelaPAN and Radio Liberty reporters leave the court room when they started making photos. She did not allow making photos and videos although both sides did not mind.
Zikratski asked to send the case to the Economic Court, Karmanau told Euroradio. Such courts should consider business reputation cases, he believes. The judge announced a break until October 6.
