Minister of Culture: National Airport should be named after Skaryna
The National Airport should be named after Francysk Skaryna and airplanes – after outstanding art workers, Barys Svyatlou believes. The Minister of Culture has commented on the idea in an interview with the information agency BELTA.
The Ministry has already sent the suggestion to the corresponding state structures, the official said. “The idea has not been pronounced for the first time, it appeared a few years ago and it would be symbolic to realize it in the Year of Culture,” Svyatlou thinks.
A group of Belarusian intellectuals suggested naming the National Airport after the Belarusian first book printer a few months ago. Belarus will mark the 500th anniversary of the printing of Skaryna’s Psalter in 2017.
The National Art Museum director Uladzimir Prakaptsou has also suggested naming airplanes after outstanding art workers.
