Minsk traffic police boost control over drivers' protest threat

The traffic police in Minsk will thoroughly watch drivers to follow the stopping and parking rules in the city center. The checks will intensify on the eve and over the weekend.

"Possible illegal actions of drivers aiming to block the traffic movement will be stopped. Those responsible will be subjected to punishment, that includes forced evacuation of vehicles," Interfax-West reports quoting the traffic police's press-office.

Automobile owners are expected to protest against the introduction of fees for allowing vehicles to participate in the traffic movement in 2014. Dozens thousand signatures against the law have been collected under an online petition by now.

Euroraio reported earlier that Ministry of Finance plans to raise 1.6 trillion roubles from the car fee. The state fee for a permit for a vehicle to participate in the traffic movement will be divided 50/50 between the national and the local budgets. The funds will be allocated for road construction, repairs and maintenance.
