Russia mulls over another military base in Belarus
The base will be needed not for defense but for the demonstration of force to NATO member states, experts reckon.
It will be a Russian air base, Deutsche Welle reports. Fighters able to his targets within 1.5 thousand kilometers from the airdrome will be deployed there. The military equipment is needed for demonstrating force near NATO borders, experts think.
The military operation is not officially based in Belarus yet. From 4 to 10 Russian SU-27 fighters are ‘on duty’ protecting the territory of ‘the union state’ in our country now.
The other two Russian air bases situated in Belarus are technical objects involved in intelligence, communications and radiolocation. 24 SU27SM3 are planned to be sent to the third air base. However, the final agreement has not been signed yet. “They are probably trading,” expert Alyaksandr Alesin thinks.
