Opposition wants new Prosecutor General to free Kozulin
Ihar Rynkevich, a former lawyer to political prisoner Alexander Kozulin, has commented to the European Radio for Belarus, on the reshuffle between Belarus's Prosecutor General and the Chairman of the Constitutional Court.
He said that people should not expect any serious changes, because key decisions continue to be taken "on the very top". Yet, he hopes that Ryhor Vasilevich who has been appointed as the country's prosecutor general from the post of the chairman of the Supreme Court of Belarus, could make a noble deed by freeing Alexander Kozulin who contended Alexander Lukashenka in the 2006 presidential race.
Ihar Rynkevich reminded that Kozulin had filed numerous appeals with the former Prosecutor General, Piotr Miklashevich. Prior to his hunger strike in the fall of 2006, Kozulin wrote to Miklashevich that he was stopping any correspondence with him. Rynkevich does not rule out that Kozulin could resume correspondence with the new Prosecutor General.
