OSCE to check if CEC fulfils its recommendations
Vice President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and head of the work group for Belarus Kent Härstedt has reacted to the statement made by the Belarusian Central Election Commission. The CEC is planning to fulfil some OSCE/ODIHR recommendations at the next parliamentary election.
"Belarus has agreed to fulfil some OSCE/ODIHR recommendations pronounced after the last election. However, I regret that the long-expected changes to the Election Code are not going to be made anytime soon,” the European politician said.
“It is necessary to check whether the statements made by the election administration will be realised during the next election campaign,” BelaPAN quotes Härstedt .
The Central Election Commission has announced the planned innovations – more transparent creation of election committees, vote count and consideration of appeals.
The parliamentary election will be held on September 11 in Belarus. Officially, the campaign will begin on June 7.
