Parliamentary elections held in Turkmenistan today
Parliamentary elections are being held in Turkmenistan today. It is the first time international observers from the CIS, UN and OSCE have attended elections in this country. Elections to Majlis, the Turkmenian Parliament, are held in single member constituencies.
There are 125 seats for 288 candidates in the parliament. Deputies are elected for five years, reports the “RIA NOVOSTI” agency.
According to “Interfax”, 56% of electors have already voted in Turkmenistan as of 12 a.m. TMT. The country’s Central Election Commission has claimed that the elections have taken place.
