Participants of BAJ Internet referendum vote against law “On mass media”
An Internet referendum about some articles of the law “On Mass media” has been in process on the website of the Belarusian Association of Journalists for two days. The overwhelming majority of its participants are against the law.
Let us remind you that three issues are to be considered during the BAJ Internet referendum:
1. Do you think it is necessary to register Internet resources as mass media?
91.6% of participants voted contra as of Tuesday, 4 p.m. Only 6.5% voted “pro” and 1.9% abstained. 643 people answered the question.
2. Do you think it is necessary to limit the possibility of getting foreign investments for Belarusian mass media?
81.7% of voters were against the idea. 9.7% voted “pro” and 8.6% abstained. 556 people answered the question.
3. Do you think is it necessary to reregister all mass media after the law “On mass media” comes into power?
92.7% of participants voted “contra”. 3.7% voted “pro” and 3.6% abstained from voting. 601 people answered the question.
BAJ reminds that the document was adopted by the House of Representatives in it second reading and was approved by the Council of the Republic in spite of numerous appeals of the Belarusian and international community not to pass the bill in a haste, to organize its public discussion and to wait for an international expertise.
