Prices for Minsk Hotels fell by 15% in 2014 due to competition
At the same time, profitability of hotels in the capital does not exceed 1.5 percent.
The number of hotels in Minsk is increasing which forces the hotels to reduce the prices. In 2013 the hotel prices fell on average by 13%, and in 2014 - by 15%. BELTA learned this from the acting Head of household and hotel services of Minsk Executive Committee, Yury Natychka.
Profitability of the capital's hotels is less than 1.5%
Currently, there are 44 hotels working in Minsk with 9320 rooms. In 2014, half of them was empty. In 2015 it is planned to open 8 more with occupancy going down to 40%. At the same time, the current profitability of the Minsk hotels does not exceed 1.5%.
The Department for Sport and Tourism of the Minsk City Executive Committee previously stated that the hotel occupancy in the summer was 50%. According to the editor of Tourism and Recreation, Liliya Kobzik, hotels, built for the World Hockey Championship in the summer, were occupied only by 20-40% depending on the prices.
In total, for hockey competitions in Minsk it was planned to build 14 new hotels. But not all of them were finished: Kempinski Hotel near the circus was never opened. Later, the company said that they were not building the hotel in Minsk. Kempinski: We are not building a hotel in Minsk.
