Prosecutor General extends chief investigator Sviatlana Baykova's term in custody for 2 months
Prosecutor Genetal of Belarus has extended for two months the term of chief investigator Sviatlana Baykova in custody, reports Belapan. KGB chairman Vadzim Zaytsau opened criminal proceedings against Mrs Baykova on February 24 under Article 399 and 426 in the Penal Code of Belarus. On April 23, Prosecutor General refused to extend the term of detenion as no additional evidence was provided in the case.
In June, the State Security Committe (KGB) filed evidence that Sviatlana Baykova had ordered groundless detentions of the accused in 2006-2007. Therefore, she remained behind bars. The preliminary inquiry into her case is to end by August 24.
