Public seeks answers from city hall over BNR’s 100th anniversary memory plate
Belarusian People’s Republic has sent an appeal to head of Minsk City Executive Committee Andrei Shorats. The groundless delay of the installation of the BNR memory shield at Valadarski Street, 9 is discussed in the appeal. The independence of the Belarusian People’s Republic (BNR) was declared in this building 100 years ago.
The memory plate was made by sculptor Ales Shaternik 25 years ago. Sculptor Ihar Zasimovich made a new memory plate from bronze thanks to donations later. The art council of Mink City Executive Committee approved it in April 2018. However, the city authorities have not given official permission to install it so far, Radio Liberty reports.
The appeal mentions the high level of events dated for the 100th anniversary of the BNR. The public is asking to consider the appeal of the Belarusian Union of Artists and to install the memory plate as soon as possible.
The appeal has been signed by the head for the organizing committee, academician Radzim Haretski, painter Mikola Kupava, BPF Party leader Ryhor Kastusyou, member of the BPF Seim Ales Zhuchkou, priest Leanid Akalovich and MP of the Supreme Council of the 12th convocation Lyavon Barshcheuski.
