Radio Liberty reporter not allowed to attend meeting with ‘freeloaders’
Radio Liberty journalist Halina Abakunchyk wanted to attend the meeting with ‘freeloaders’ conducted by President’s assistant Alexander Yakabson in the administration of Minsk Maskouski District on February 16. Officials from the President’s Administration will be organizing meetings with citizens disagreeing with ‘the freeloaders’ tax’ on February 16 and 17.
The Radio Liberty journalist asked for permission to attend the meeting. However, officials have refused her explaining that state mass media would cover it. They also demanded that the journalist did not talk to visitors in the queue ad left the building. A policeman wrote down her passport data and made Halina Abakunchyk leave the building.
Tax inspectors expect 470 thousand citizens to pay the freeloader’s tax. However, only 46 thousand citizens have already paid it. The deadline is February 20.
