5 killed in Ukraine plane crash
Passenger plane carrying 40 people, including VIPs, makes crash landing near Donetsk in eastern Ukraine
The Antonov 24 regional airliner on route from Odessa to Donetsk caught fire after the crash landing at the Donetsk International Airport. 5 passengers are reported dead, with two injured and several missing. The rest of the passengers were successfully evacuated, reports the Ukrainian state news agency UNIAN
Media reports suggest that the plane was carrying on board local VIPs — MPs, businessmen, officials and judges who were traveling to Champions League match between Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Dortmund. There was a total of 36 passengers and 8 crew members on board the plane.
A minute of silence was observed before the kick-off in Donetsk.
