Ales Byalyatski transferred to prison No. 8 in Zhodzina
He will stay there until the sentence comes into force. Before this, the human rights defender was in custody in the Valadarski Street denetion center No.1.
Byalyatski was transferred on December 1. His ally human rights defender Nasta Lojka has informed this to Euroradio:
Lojka: "Yesterday he was transferred to the detention center in Zhodzina. There is a common prison complex there, the official name is "prison No. 8", in Savetskaya Street. He will stay there until his appeal against the sentence is considered or until the sentence comes into force. After that, they will send him to the place where he will serve punishment".
According to Lojka, such transfer is the usual practice as there's not enough room in "Valadarka". However, she considers Byalyatski's transfer as a way to put pressure on the political prisoner. Lojka states that in Minsk he was in slightly better conditions than the ones he will face in Zhodzina.
Let us remind you, Byalyatski was sentenced to 4,5 years of imprisonment in a reinforced-security correctional establishment with confiscation of property. He was accused of tax evasion in especially big scope. His appeal will be considerd within December.
