Average age of a Belarusian MP — nearly 56 years old
Euroradio compared the age of MPs in Belarus and Europe.
"I think our candidate has become a bit older. There were more young people under 30 years old before, especially at the primary level. Now the age of contenders - from 30 to 50 years", - CEC Chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna said on August 24.
This concerns not only potential deputies. I call to the House of Representatives in order to find out about the age of its acting members.
"We don't have such information. I don't remember who is the oldest, and our youngest deputy was born in 1978", - they say in the press-center of the Belarusian Parliament.
It turns out, that our youngest MP is 34. The average age of the House of Representatives is 55,8 years old.
To compare, the average age of Polish MPs is 50 years old. The oldest MP is 73, the youngest MP in the history of Poland Jan Ziobr will turn 23 (!) in a week.
Representatives of the Lithuanian Seimas report to Euroradio: the average age of a Lithuanian MP is 49,5 years old, the youngest one is 26, the oldest - 72.
There are rather many politicians of the age 29-30 years old in the Parliament of Latvia.
So why are the European MPs younger than Belarusian ones?
"This is a usual tendency. The quicker a country develops, the younger its leaders are. This concern both MPs and appointed officials", - says political scientist Uladzimir Matskevich.
