Barroso's ultimatum: It's Lukashenka or me
President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso will refuse to participate in the conference in Kyiv if the Belarusian President also goes there.
A source in the European commission has informed this to UNIAN's correspondent.
An international conference "Twenty Five Years after Chernobyl Tragedy. Security of the Future" will take place on April 20-22 in Kyiv. The Belarusian Government acted as a co-organizer of this event, together with the governments of Ukraine and Russia, the European commission, and the Council of Europe.
A political scientist Jury Shautsou has called this demand an "overshoot" on air on Euroradio. The EU's position with regard to Aliaksandr Lukashenka after December 19 is widely known, but in this case we are talking about a problem, which is important for the whole population of Belarus.
Besides, "to everyone's benefit", the Belarusian PM Miasnikovich could substitute Lukashenka at the conference in Kyiv. He was connected with the academic science till recent time.
