Confiscation of "Vyasna"s office - question of time
The election observation will be held in unusual conditions, as the human rights center "Vyasna" may lose its office any day.
"Our Chairman Ales Byalyatski is in prison and there is a problem with the office, ― says Byalyatski's ally, human rights defender Valyantsin Stefanovich. ― We don't know whether we manage to conduct the campaign till September ("Human rights defenders - for free election" ― Euroradio) in our current office. There are court hearings taking place at the moment, and we plan to file claims. However, it is a question of time. The office will be confiscated anyway".
The KGB have already shown their interest to the observers' work, adds head of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Aleh Hulak:
"They asked what we were going to do and claimed that they were interested in the facts of violations which we would find".
The most important thing, the HR defenders say, is that the law-enforcement agencies should give proper estimation to the revealed violations and take measures to punish the guilty.
Let us remind you, in the end of May law-enforcement officials enlisted the property of "Vyasna", but did not seal the apartment where its office is located.
