Earthquake and tsunami destroyed Fukushima-1 NPP in Japan 1 year ago
It was the most terrible nuclear disaster after Chernobyl.
North-east Japan was struck by a 8.9 earthquake in the Miyagi prefecture on March 11, 2011. More than 19 thousand people were killed or went missing after the earthquake and the tsunami caused by it. Moreover, a radiation leak occurred at Fukishima-1 nuclear power plant after the catastrophe. 120 thousand people were evacuated from the 20-km area near the plant. The losses of the economy, transport and infrastructure totalled about 215 billion dollars.
Interestingly, when Alyaksandr Lukashenka accepted the credentials of Japanese Ambassador Tikohito Harada this February, he suggested that Japan built an NPP in Belarus.
