Halezin: We are not discussing political refugeeism
"Free Theatre" could not ask the USA for political asylum because it is in London. The theatre’s art-director, Mikalai Halezin, has informed Euroradio about it.
Halezin: "I got to know about my political refugeeism from “Nasha Niva”. We have not asked for political asylum anywhere. It would be strange to ask the USA for political asylum in London. We are working in London at the moment. We are going to leave for New York for a month tour one of these days. However, we have not even discussed political refugeeism”.
Let us remind you that rumours about Halezin and his wife Natallya’s refugeeism appeared in Polish mass media. The reason for them was the cancellation of “Free Theatre”’s performance in the Polish Theatre. Is it true?
Halezin: "There is an element of truth everywhere but on the whole, it is not true. We did not have to give any performance in Poland. We had to prepare a production in Poland: Valodzya Shcherban and I had to go to the Polish Theatre to Andrzej Sevyaryn in April or May and to make two performances in one. I had to stage one performance and Valodzya – the other. “Free Theatre” was not supposed to give any performances in Poland”.
According to Halezin, the production in the Polish Theatre had been put off till autumn. “Free Theatre” is going to make a tour in New York now. Furthermore, the art-director says that the international civil campaign “Free Belarus now” has been launched and members of “Free Theatre” are dedicating a lot of time to it.
