Kiss club fire in Brazil: 233 people dead (photo)
At least 6 have died in hospital. The previous number of victims was 245.
The bodies have been delivered to the municipal sports centre of Santa-Maria, Terra Brasil reports. A centre for relatives of the dead and injured has been set up there. 159 people have already been identified.
48 people are in Santa-Maria hospitals (the previous reported number was 200). Their health condition is unknown. From 400 to 2000 people were in the club including participants of a students' party and 23 employees, various sources report.
The fire started at about 2 or 2.30 a.m. on the night of January 27. A pyrotechnics show organized inside the club caused the fire. A flag caught fire and the flame started spreading. The visitors panicked trying to reach the only emergency exit.
Many people entered the bathroom by mistake - the emergency exist was next to it, one of the employees said. He tried to use a fire extinguisher but it wouldn't work, Lenta.ru reports referring to foreign information agencies.
