Milana Mihalevich: I did not say goodbye to my husband
Ales’ departure was unexpected for his wife. In her opinion, it was a spontaneous decision taken after some meeting.
Ales Mihalevich left for a usual meeting but did not come back. His wife Milana did not expect it. They did not discuss the possible departure abroad with her husband. He probably took the spontaneous decision after some meeting, says Milana.
"I think that my husband had a good reason to do so. We just did not have time to discuss it”.
Milana did not even say goodbye to her husband. Ales was not going to leave when he went out.
"He was not going to leave when he went out of the house. He set off for two of his usual meetings. He worked according to his usual schedule last week. We parted as usual. December 19 taught me to part with people as if it was the last time we met. So we used to part this way all the time. My friends told me that he had managed to cross the border on Sunday evening (after 5 p.m.). He has left everything here – all his belongings and his phone, he has not taken anything with him”.
Milana does not know how he crossed the border but says that the ideas mentioned by the press are fantastic.
"I would like to find out who helped him get out of the country and where he is. Especially after I heard a few fantastic versions. But I do not know the details. He is in a safe place now and that’s enough for me”.
The news about Mihalevich’s departure abroad was unexpected both for Milana and for his lawyers. The lawyers have only informed her that Ales could be announced wanted and his measure of restraint could be changed. The investigators have not contacted Milana so far.
"There have been no contacts so far. The lawyers arrived as usual because it was unexpected news for them too”.
Will the investigators exercise pressure on the politician’s family because he is out of KGB’s reach? Milana has not thought about it yet.
"It is rather difficult to predict what they will invent. It seems they have tried everything in the recent months. I have not thought about it yet”.
According to Milana, Ales knew that he had agreed to cooperate with KGB to be released and to be able to describe the tortures. He took the decision himself but informed his wife about it back then. However, Milana did not know anything this time.
