More Belarusians stand for joining EU than for integration with Russia
These are the results of the public opinion poll conducted by the Independent Institute for Social-Economic and Political Studies in December 2012.
According to the data
provided by the IISEPS (Vilnius), 43,4% of respondents think
that Belarus should join the EU, while 37,7% stand for
integration with Russia.
In September 2012, 36,2% stood for integration with Russia and 44,1% — for
joining the EU.
The IISEPS experts consider that "europeization of the public opinion is connected rather with some pragmatic issues than with values". To the question "Which help the EU could render in the modernization of Belarus?" Belarusians answer "modern technologies" and "credit provision" (42,2% and 36% correspondingly), not "consultative help in the reforms conducting"(28,4%), BelaPAN notes.
