Russian opposition meeting in Moscow ended without mass detentions (photo)
No incidents occurred during the action “For Fair Election” in New Arbat either.
According to the organizers of the action, 25 thousand people came to the meeting although 50 thousands were expected to come. The police think that there were 10 thousand people, reports the BBC. The organizers have promised to invent a strategy of conducting protest events. The next meeting may be dated for the inauguration of the Russian President on May 7.
The opposition think that the main goal is to achieve a political reform and new elections of the President, Mayor of Moscow, governors of the provinces, Mayors of all the cities, local deputies and a new parliamentary election.
The coordinator of the Left Front Sergei Udaltsov was detained at the end of the action together with several adherents. He claimed that he would stay, headed for Pushkin Square and the police stopped him.
