Spontaneous demonstration of drivers dispersed at Bruzgi border terminal
They protested against new customs rules. According to non-official information, police used tear gas, detentions were also reported. UPDATED.
A spontaneous demonstration of drivers occurred in the evening of June 12 at Bruzgi border-crossing terminal in Hrodna region. According to new rules, they are supposed to pay the fee for going abroad more than once within 5 days, therefore, many people willing to go to Poland had to return home.
As time went by, the number of such "returnees" started to increase. A spontaneous demonstration of incensed drivers occurred. Piot police and police vans appeared. It is seen in the photos published by “Hrodna Forum” that riot police blocked the way to the border.
More than 100 people held hands and blocked the terminal. In the culmination moment the drivers started singing the state anthem.
"Nasha Niva" has informed that riot policemen dispersed the spontaneous demonstration using tear gas.
According to some information, the protesters demanded a meeting with Hrodna "Governor". According to Radio Racyja, head of Hrodna regional executive committee Siamion Shapira arrived to the border-crossing terminal. However, this information has not been officially confirmed yet.
