Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to get political asylum in Belarus?
Russian expert Vladimir Sotnikov thinks that Moscow may persuade the Belarusian authorities into accepting him if he resigns.
Let us remind you that the struggle between the authorities and the armed opposition has enhanced in Syria. The position of President Bashar al-Assad has weakened and he may flee from the country. Russia is the first candidate here. However, according to "Komemrsant", Sotnikov does not exclude that the Russian authorities "may conduct negotiations with Belarus to avoid irritating the West and may persuade Minsk into giving political asylum to Bashar al-Assad".
Precedents have already been established. Dismissed President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev received political asylum in our country two years ago.
