Socialist becomes French President first time in 17 years
After 98.89% of votes had been counted, François Hollande got 51.67% against 48.33% for Nicolas Sarkozy.

François Hollande is 57 years old. He was born in Rouen (northern France) to a family of a doctor and social representative. He is a graduate of the elite National School of Administration. He has been a member of the Socialist Party since the 1980s. He was elected deputy of the National Assembly in 1988. He was the leader of the Socialist Party for 11 years starting from 1997 and the Mayor of Tulle from 2001 to 2008. Then and became President of the Corrèze General Council.
