Rymasheuski: I do not blame Mihalevich although it may be worse for us
Ales Mihalevich has taken the optimal decision in his situation. Former presidential candidate Vital Rymasheuski has expressed his opinion about the departure.
In his opinion, Mihalevich will be safer abroad rather that in Belarus after his confession about tortures in KGB detention. At the same time Rymasheuski says that Mihalevich’s deed may affect the other people named in the Dec.19 case.
Rymasheuski: "I think that it will produce an effect. The people released on recognizance may face a new threat. At the same time, I would like to stress that I do not blame Ales for what he has done because I understand his motives”.
Rymasheuski says that he is not going to leave Belarus because he bears responsibility for his party.
Rymasheuski: "There may be different thoughts but I do not have a choice. Especially me, I bear responsibility for my party – the BCD. Evidently, the regime considers us to be one of the most dangerous structures. It is not because we are radical. The parliamentary elections are approaching and parties will take part in them according to the proportional election system. If Pavel Sevyarynets or I migrate, others will take our positions – Dzyanis Sadouski and other leaders. They will find themselves in the same situation and they have families too. The way out is like that – we should all leave or stay here and endure it until the end. I personally think that we should endure it until we can and to struggle while we can work. I will do it. I do not consider emigration as an option at the moment”.
The politician says that activities in Belarus and abroad are equally important now. That is why the BCD has opened representative offices in Vilnius and Warsaw.
Rymasheuski:
However, Rymasheuski is critical about Mihalevich’s political prospects in Belarus. In his opinion, you cannot be a civil leader in Belarus if you are abroad. However, Rymasheuski blames the Belarusian authorities for it.
