Demand for food from Belarus high in Russia after sanctions
President Lukashenka warned officials against having deficit at the domestic market.
According to state news agency BelTA, he said this during a visit to Skidzelsky farm on August 15. According to Lukashenka, there is an increased demand for Belarusian products in Russia. One and a half tons of Belarusian butter was sold there just within one day.
According to Leanid Zayats, Minister of Agriculture and Food, it is possible to get a revenue of $2 billion from the supply of milk and meat products to Russia from August till December. The Minister also said that prices for dairy products had increased in Russia.
"We have to move, use this time and make money," said Lukashenka. "It must be borne in mind that they have closed their market, but we did not take responsibility over the domestic market ... We can import products from anywhere in the world. We need to load, process and sell. We just need to negotiate it with the Russians, so that we are not accused of going against their policy. We also shouldn't neglect our own market, so that households receive as many products as needed," said Lukashenka.
